New report outlines path to cut firms' net zero costs

29 May 2025

A report carried out by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has outlined a path to help cut carbon emissions and costs for small firms.

The FSB's report found that small businesses are keen to make investments in sustainability and to become more energy efficient through reducing their carbon footprints.

Detailed recommendations have been made by the business group in its report to help small firms overcome the barriers they face on the road to net zero.

The FSB revealed that lower energy bills are small businesses' top incentives for utilising low carbon improvements. It also stated that growth in the green economy should not exclude small firms and support must be tailored to small businesses' needs.

Tina McKenzie, Policy Chair at the FSB, said: 'The incredible inventiveness and entrepreneurialism among the small business community will be a powerful tool when it comes to cutting carbon, growing the green economy, and hitting the country's net zero targets – if small businesses are given the tools and support they need to thrive.'
