Annual Financial Reporting And Business Communication Conference 2016
The 20th Annual Financial Reporting and Business Communications Conference will take place between the 30th of June and 1st July. The event is going to be hosted by the university of Bristol in conjunction with the BAFA and FARSIG. Over its years of operation, the event has earned a prestige as the preeminent conference in the field globally. Due to this reputation, it attracts thought leaders from the international community.
The aim of the event is to address and reflect upon key areas of contemporary interest to both accounting academics and active practitioners. The key areas that will be discussed this year include:
- The history of accountancy.
- The development and improvement of sustainable, integrated and environmental reporting.
- Discussion of the purpose of the modern corporate report, and the present effectiveness of financial reporting standards.
- The present role which financial reporting currently plays within capital markets, financial stability and corporate governance.
Unlike other conferences within the field, the Annual Financial Reporting and Business Communication Conference actively invites papers from the accounting community. Papers are welcomed not only on the topics listed above, but also on any and all aspects contained within the field of financial reporting and business communication. This includes, but is not limited to, empirical and theoretical papers, case studies and articles on accounting measurement and disclosure (for example, CSR, intellectual capital, risk), presentation including the visual, communication and the impact of information that is contained within annual reports and other, additional, business documentation in the private and public sectors.
Parties who are interested in having a paper considered for presentation at the conference have to undertake an assessment process. To be considered, an applicant must send a 500 word abstract of their proposal to the event’s organisers. In addition, applicants must indicate whether their contribution is to be considered for the event’s PhD stream, or for delivery at the main conference. This year, a Sue Hrasky Scholarship is available for 2016 for applicants via the PhD stream, the scholarship covers a doctoral fee waiver, UK receipted travel, in addition to subsistence and accommodation costs at the conference.
As part of the paper’s submitted for delivery at the main conference, this year there are two separate streams for two of the event’s core subjects. These are respectively papers on Social and Environmental disclosure and Integrated Reporting, which are relevant and eligible to the 2017/18 issue of Advances in Environmental Accounting and Management, and the History of Accounting.
